I went into short-term rentals thinking it would be fairly passive income. The numbers looked great and every spreadsheet made it feel like a no-brainer. The reality has been more hands-on than expected. Guest turnover means constant cleaning coordination, small issues always need fast fixes and local regulations can shift the rules overnight. Even strong months can get offset by slower seasons or unexpected costs.
It still works, but it doesn’t feel like the way people sometimes sell it. I will like to know how others in STRs are managing it long term and whether it’s getting easier or more complicated over time.
