After years in the corporate grind, we finally bought our first duplex, house hacking it like a charm. We followed that with a small cabin by the lake a few years later. Now, those two properties net us enough to scale back work significantly and spend more time with our school-age kids. It is not a full retirement but it feels like hitting the jackpot compared to before.

This is fantastic! It might not be full retirement in the traditional sense, but having that kind of freedom and flexibility surely feels like hitting the jackpot. Enjoy!

How did you decide those were the right properties to start with, was it more about the numbers, the lifestyle fit, or just what was available at the time?

nice, going for both urban and relaxed setting is excellent so you're covering two target groups. Smart.

Thanks everyone for the kind words!

@Richard12 it was a little bit of both. The duplex was a pure numbers play to get our feet wet and lower our own living costs, while the cabin was more of a lifestyle purchase for the family that also had to work as a rental.

@Biziness85 on point bro. Having both types gives us a great mix.
